R Godfrey Rivers, Vida Lahey and Daphne Mayo were not only artists, they were art advocates and educators in Brisbane, and important figures in the history of the Queensland Art Gallery. Works in this section include Rivers’s Under the jacaranda, one of the Gallery’s best-loved works since it entered the Collection in 1903, and Josephine Müntz-Adam’s Care c.1893, the first painting by an Australian artist purchased for the Queensland Art Gallery Collection.
