LJ Harvey was a woodcarver, sculptor, potter and teacher whose work holds national significance. The pottery course he established at Brisbane’s Central Technical College developed into the most extensive school of art pottery in Australia. Harvey’s classes, and those of his students, meant his influence spanned more than three decades. He developed a distinct regional style based on European neo-Renaissance and Australian motifs, together with ceramic hand-building techniques. This narrative includes the work of the artist, as well as works by some of his most accomplished students.
